Leadership Day at Hanawalt

Monday, May 14th, 2018

Hanawalt Elementary School participated in a very special day recently.  The students, along with teachers and staff, hosted the first annual Leadership Day on Friday, May 11th.  The day consisted of showcasing the different aspects of using The Leader in Me framework that promotes student success in and out of school.  Around 100 parents/families attended as the day started off with a student-led ceremony featuring a 3rd grader as the emcee, many piano solos, a violin and guitar solo, and many students who gave background information on what the 7 Habits were all about.  Parents were then able to go to visit the classroom throughout the whole school, not just where their students’ homeroom was, to get a feel for how Hanawalt works with the 7 Habits and how they are encouraged to be leaders in their own way.  They were given punch cards so that they could have a record of each room they visited.  The media center housed all of Hanawalt’s clubs through displays and videos.  Each of the clubs had students available to present and answer questions about their clubs.  The closing ceremony wrapped up the day and featured a teacher/student-led panel for a question and answer session.  Leadership Day received an overwhelmingly great praise from parents that attended, stating it was a great way to show the students’ skills and capabilities right now and in the future.
