Kerry Esch has been at Hanawalt since 1995. She first started as a teacher associate then taught 2nd, 4th and 5th grade. She has taught 3rd grade for several years and is really excited to be making the move back this year. She grew up in Des Moines and went St. Augustin’s, Hubbell and Merrill Junior High and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Her six siblings all graduated from Dowling Catholic High School. She attained her teaching degree from Iowa State and received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Viterbo University, Lacrosse WI. She is married and has a daughter, Alaina who attends Hanawalt and a stepdaughter, Alex who lives in Indianola. She lives with her family and their dogs, Maizy and Murphy. She loves to laugh, read, and be around people
Deb has been at Hanawalt since 2001, she is currently teaching 3rd grade after a short stint in 5th grade last year. She has been married for 32 years and has two adult sons who live in the Des Moines area, two grandsons and a granddaughter. When she is not at school Deb enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends on the lake and supporting the Iowa State Cyclones. Deb feels very blessed to be a part of the Hanawalt Community.

Laura was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State University in December of 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She joined the Kindergarten Team at Hanawalt Elementary in January of 2017. She loves providing engaging learning experiences for her students and enjoys being a part of their amazing growth. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and spending time outdoors being active.
