This will be Blaine’s third year at Hanawalt. Blaine has lived in Des Moines for most of her life. She attended Iowa State University where she majored in Psychology. Blaine went on to get her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Iowa. She has recently been licensed in the State of Iowa as a LMSW. Blaine currently works for Orchard Place Child Guidance Center as a School-Based mental health therapist. She has enjoyed working with all types of families and children . Her previous experience includes working in a private preschool as a teacher, working for Youth Emergency Services and Shelter (YESS) as a Resident Advisor, working with SUCCESS at Hoyt Middle School, and most recently working at Mitchell Early Childhood Center as a Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant. Blaine has tons of hobbies, but mostly she likes to stay active. Some of Blaine’s favorite sports to play are soccer, tennis,volleyball and she loves to run. Blaine also enjoys traveling. Blaine has been all over the world and takes great pleasure in learning about different cultures..
Mrs. Mireles has eighteen years of experience in education for DMPS, teaching kindergarten and first grade, and the last twelve as a school counselor. During that time she also trained instructional staff members on cultural sensitivity and at the college level, Effects of Poverty. Mrs. Mireles graduated from Upper Iowa with a degree in Elementary Education. She earned a M.Ed. in School Counseling from Drake University and a degree in Educational Leadership from Viterbo University. Having worked in another field prior to teaching, she transfers her real world experiences to make learning relevant and enriching. Mrs. Mireles is thrilled to be working with Hanawalt students, staff and parents to share her passion for lifelong learning.
