Christal has been the Office Manager at Hanawalt since 2020. She enjoys working with the exceptional staff, students and families at Hanawalt! In her free time, she likes to travel with family and spend time with her two dogs.
I graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s in history, and Drake University with a master’s in teaching. I have taught in Des Moines for 14 years and am excited to work with students at Hanawalt.

My name is Amy Dace BSN, RN, CCM. I am fortunate to provide healthcare and education to Hanawalt’s students and families as the school nurse. I have a diverse background including mental health, pediatrics, internal medicine and care management. I worked for Unity Point for 23 years prior to coming to DMPS. My favorite things are to travel with my two daughters and spend time with my three French bulldogs.
Aisha plays a vital role in encouraging student success and nurturing a welcoming learning environment. By working alongside teachers, she provides tailored support to help every student reach their full potential.
Lynda is a Special Education Consultant for the Des Moines Schools. She retired from the district several years ago and still finds it hard to say no when called. She spends most of her work life reviewing IEPs and participating in meetings. Outside of work she enjoys reading, sketching, dabbling in photography and spending time with friends and family.

Jessica Renaud is starting her first full year as a Special Education Associate. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln and then Iowa State University. In her free time she likes to read, go on walks, work on projects around her acreage and spend time with her husband, son and labradoodle.
Stephanie Salmon grew up in Des Moines and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Early Childhood Education. She taught Kindergarten for 30 years in Iowa and Texas before joining the Hanawalt team as a Special Education Associate. She loves supporting the classroom teachers and working with students to help strengthen their skills in math and reading. Outside of school, Stephanie loves spending time with her husband Tim, daughters Kate and Lizzy, son-in-law Jack and dog Kricket. Their favorites include traveling, going to concerts, family game nights and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Hello! My name is Leaf Seckington. I grew up in DesMoines and my mom went to Hanawalt. I graduated with a BA from Upper Iowa University with endorsements in reading and special education. I began my career teaching special education in the DesMoines Public Schools. I took some time off to be with my family and raise my kiddos and am excited to be back in the education field! My husband and I have two children that keep me very busy. I love working with teachers and families to provide the support and services our students need to be successful.
Elizabeth Whitney is a Special Education Associate. She supports students in the classroom with educational and physical needs. After school she enjoys playing outside with her daughter and dog Apollo, also loves a good book.
