Kindness Parties at Hanawalt

New School Hours Beginning in August


Beginning in August, all schools at DMPS will have new hours. The new hours at our school will be 7:30 AM to 2:25 PM. The change is being made to better serve the educational needs of students, based on research into the sleep patterns of children and teenagers. Click the headline for more information.

2nd Semester Clubs Starting Soon


On Wednesday, February 7, K-5 students participate in on their second hour of Club Time. Teachers lead clubs around a variety of interests and topics. Hanawalt Elementary is excited to announce that we are becoming a Canvas school.  What does this mean?  Canvas is a learning management system that supports your student’s learning and provides a way for a parent to connect to the learning taking place.  As we are just starting on this journey, we expect many different levels of usage by teachers, students, and parents.  Please be patient as we are learning how to best support your learner.

Des Moines Public Schools uses Infinite Campus as its web-based student information system. The service allows students and parents/guardians to access academic information and other student records.
