Girls on the Run at Hanawalt
Girls on the Run is designed to strengthen 3-5 grade girls’ social, emotional, physical and behavioral skills to successfully navigate life experiences. Their vision and mission states “Girls on the Run envisions a world where all girls can know and activate their limitless potential and be free to boldly pursue their dreams. The program inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates movement.”
Our girls have been meeting and working hard on all four aspects since the beginning of September. They have learned to understand themselves, value relationships and teamwork, and recognize how they shape the world around them. After weeks of hard work, our Hanawalt GOTR ran a 5K Sunday, November 13 in the Principal Park neighborhood with their running buddies that included parents, community members and Hanawalt teachers. One of the goals is to help support the Animal Rescue League of Iowa by collecting items that help the animals. They are currently collecting through Friday, 18! Items needed are used, clean towels, blankets, pet food, treats, toys, leashes, or collars.
